Mentoring Award

History and Overview

The mentoring award was begun in 1990 to honor an SWS member who is anoutstanding feminist mentor. While the word "mentoring" is commonly used to describe a faculty-student relationship, this award has shown the breadth of ways in which feminist mentoring is practiced. In establishing the award, SWS recognized that feminist mentoring is an important and concrete way to encourage feminist scholarship, membership in the academy, and feminist change.

Please remember that the nominee must be a current member of SWS.

The award - plaque and $500 - will be presented at the SWS summer banquet during the ASA annual meeting.

Nomination packages usually consist of recommendation letters from mentees across the multiple arenas of the mentor's influence. The nominator then collates theinformation and writes a cover letter.

Nominations due March1, 2013.
