Getting Involved in SWS

SWS thrives as an organization because of the active participation of our members. There are a variety of opportunities to be involved in SWS – the list below is just a small sample.
Committees

Academic Justice converted from Task Force on Feminist Transformation of the Academy
Awards handles the nomination and selection of annual SWS awards
Career Development implements activities that assist SWS members in professional development.
Discrimination reviews cases of sex discrimination in academia and recommends cases in which SWS can assist
International coordinates SWS activities with UN activities related to the betterment of women around the world.
Membership works on recruiting and retaining members, as well as other issues related to membership.
Nominations handles the nomination process for elected positions in SWS.
Publications oversees the editorial operation of Gender & Society, the official journal of SWS, and Network News, our official newsletter.
Scholarship and Human Rights seeks ways to incorporate social justice-oriented scholarship in the service of protecting human rights.
Sister to sister converted from Task Force to standing committee; addresses concerns women of color face within and beyond SWS.
Social Action engages in projects that facilitate social activism in research, the classroom, and other professional arenas.
Student Concerns works on issues that are particular to SWS student members.
